77 New York 2019

10.08.2019 – 21.08.2019

TIME:SPANS Festival

In New York the fundamental electromagnetic “hum” is lower than in Europe because in the States the standard voltage is 120 V and the frequency 60 Hz. The electromagnetic waves of neon tubes, subway trains, light advertisements and LED tickers created a different electromagnetic landscape from European Electrical Walks.
Besides individual walks with the map I made 20 guided group walks starting from 9th avenue West. The tour included Madison square garden, Penn station above and underground, the post office, passageways with huge LED screens and Hudson Yards Shopping mall. The variety of magnetic soundscapes was immense and from time to time accompanied by local radio radio networks which could be received by the copper coils of the headphones, as well.
